We are dedicated to empowering adults in Grey, Bruce, and South Georgian Bay. We provide flexible and accessible learning for individuals seeking to enhance their foundational skills, complete their high school education, and achieve their personal, educational, and employment goals.

Operating under the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development and funded in part by the Government of Canada, we help adults build the skills and confidence needed for further education, apprenticeship training, and meaningful employment.

What We Offer

Our GET Set program is designed to help you:

  • Improve Essential Skills: Enhance your reading, writing, math, and computer skills.
  • Achieve Educational Goals: Prepare to complete your Ontario Secondary School Diploma, or transition to college.
  • Boost Career Prospects: Develop skills for better work opportunities, including apprenticeship.
  • Increase Independence: Build confidence for everyday life.

We primarily serve unemployed Ontarians; including those receiving income support; and employed individuals looking to upgrade their work skills.

To accommodate your schedule, we offer flexible learning formats, including in-person, self-study, virtual, and online options.

Target Learner Profiles & Goals

The program is designed for:

  • Unemployed adults, including those receiving income support
  • Employed adults who need stronger literacy or basic skills to keep or upgrade their jobs
  • Adults building independence through stronger skills
  • Learners from diverse language and cultural backgrounds, including Anglophone, Francophone, Indigenous, and Deaf learners
  • Learners who have a valid 9‑digit Social Insurance Number

 

To ensure that the literacy needs of learners from different language and cultural backgrounds are addressed, Get SET services support programming for Deaf, Anglophone, Francophone, and Indigenous learners.

Program Overview

The Get SET program focuses on adults who reside in Ontario and are unemployed, with special emphasis on people receiving income support. The Get SET program is also open to employed Ontarians who need to improve their literacy and basic skills to maintain or upgrade their work skills. Services are free and are offered on‑site at approximately 185 service providers across the province, in directed and self‑directed format, and online through e‑Channel service delivery.

Eligibility Requirements & Assessment Criteria

The Get SET program serves adult learners:

  • Who are Ontario residents;
  • Whose literacy and basic skills are assessed at intake as being less than the end of Level 3 in one or more OALCF competencies:
    • Find and Use Information
    • Communicate Ideas and Information
    • Understand and Use Numbers
  • Who are at least 18 years old. On an exception‑only basis, Get SET service providers may serve young adults aged 16–17 who demonstrate the maturity to benefit from adult education; and
  • Who are proficient in speaking and listening enough to benefit from the language of Get SET instruction (English or French). This requirement does not apply to Deaf learners.
